About this work
Coat of arms of the rhetoricians' chamber De Pellicaen in Haarlem. In the center Christ on the cross, surrounded by an oval cartouche with two allegorical figures at the top holding clasped hands and doves as attributes. Below the cross the pelican feeding its young by piercing its own breast. In the background Aeneas carrying his father Anchises out of burning Troy.
