About this work
Three men, including Jan Heemskerk Azn., are about to bury the Sunday Law, the Assembly Law, and the Sugar Law. Behind them stand two dancing men and a group of soldiers. On a broken column to the left are the names of Charles de Freycinet, Sadi Carnot, and Ferdinand Sarrien, members of the De Freycinet III cabinet in 1886. On the right, a plaque with the Latin text Hodie mihi cras tibi (Today me, tomorrow you). In the background, horses pull a wagon containing a coffin of a referendaris.
