About this work
Two armies fighting each other in a river landscape, with a bridge over the river. In the background, a burning city. Previously thought to depict the Battle of Cadore. Now believed to be the Battle of Spoleto in 1155, where the army of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa fought against the inhabitants of Spoleto, because they supported Pope Alexander III.
