About this work

Salvator Rosa sits on the right on the ground with his hand resting on a horn of plenty (cornucopia). With his other hand he gives his heart to Honesty (Sinceritas), a female figure with a dove. On the right behind the artist stands Freedom (Libertas). On the left in the foreground kneels Painting (Pictura) with a painting and painter's palette and a fish on the ground in front of her. Behind her stand a satyr and Equality (Aequitas), dressed in a toga. In the background a sarcophagus. Bottom right two lines of Latin text.
