About this work

Ornamental border with a panel at the top containing eight Italian verses. Below, a scene from Canto XV of Tasso's 'Jerusalem Delivered'. In the background on the right, the knights Ubaldo and Carlo stand before a cave with a magician who offers them a shield, a sword, and a map. In the foreground, the knights arrive on the island of Armida, where they fight wild animals and monstrous creatures.
