About this work

Lucius, the protagonist of Apuleius' novel 'Metamorphoses', has been transformed into a donkey and hears an old woman telling the story of Amor and Psyche to a young woman. To the left of a cave entrance sits the old woman with a spinning wheel and a dog, and to the right, the young woman. Italian text in two cartouches in the lower margin. Numbered twice in the lower left: 1.
