About this work
Christ hangs on the cross on Mount Golgotha, blood flows from the wound in his side. To the right of the cross stands Mary in prayer, sinking to her knees and supported by John. To the left, behind the cross, kneels Mary Magdalene while she mourns and wipes the tears from her face.
