About this work

Pontius Pilate sits on a throne and washes his hands in a basin of water brought by a servant. Christ stands with bound hands and a crown of thorns on his head between soldiers at the throne. Pilate's wife holds a globe and says something to her husband. On the back wall of the throne, between ornaments, are depicted the electoral and ducal arms of Saxony.
