About this work
The beheaded body of the apostle Paul lies on the ground; at the place where his head falls two fountains arise. A Roman commander and his retinue, including soldiers, watch. The soldier who beheaded the saint on the right puts his sword back in the scabbard. In the upper left two shields bearing the electorate and duchy arms of Saxony.
