About this work

In a living room, a family sits at a set table, praying before the meal. The parents and the eldest daughter are seated; the four younger children are standing. The youngest child stands at the mother's knee. On the left, a servant walks with a tray. On the right, a doorway to the garden. Growing by the door is a grapevine, a symbol referring to the mother of the family as a fruitful vine (Psalm 128). The children are compared to olive shoots (the plants are depicted behind the children).
