About this work

Despair pulls Amor with a dagger in her breast to an open grave. Fury armed with a dagger has appeared at the grave and holds a burning torch. In the margin stands a two-line inscription in Dutch. This illustration was made for the tragedy "Dido's Death" (1668), written by Andries Pels. The print is part of a four-part series with scenes from this tragedy.
