Triumphal Procession of William of Orange, Left Plate

Left plate of five plates of 'Triumphal Procession of William of Orange' with allegorical representations of the virtues of Prince William of Orange, consisting of: the Christian Virtues, the civil virtues and the military virtues. In this print the Christian Virtues are central. In the middle of the image under the A an elephant is depicted with on its back the personification of Faith, one of the Christian Virtues. Around the elephant fly putti with grapes and walk other personifications of virtues connected with faith, such as Trust in God (2.) and Zeal (6). The personifications are provided with a number, of which the explanation is in Latin above the image and in Dutch below the image. In the background a building on which trumpeters with flags stand.
