About this work

Lycurgus shows the wound to his eye that the young Alcander inflicted on him with a stick, just before Lycurgus fled to a temple. The Spartans react, despite their anger over the new law for the rich, with horror. In the lower margin five lines of French text with a description of the scene and mention of the source of this legend: Plutarch.
