About this work

The personification of conquered Judea looks up to the sky. She is surrounded by attributes from the destroyed temples of Jerusalem. She sits on a dead priest; before her lies a naked woman whose body is pierced with a dagger. In the air flies the angel of vengeance, holding a flaming sword. Peace (Pax) points her to Justice in the sky. In the background the temple in Jerusalem, which is engulfed in flames.
