About this work
Allegory on the marriage of Dirk van Lennep the younger and Catharina de Neufville in 1716. Dirk van Lennep holds a burning heart in his hand and is escorted to the bed where Catharina de Neufville sits. Liberty tries to stop Dirk. The marriage god Hymen lights a torch at an altar. Above Catharina, Juno appears. The scene is framed in an ornamental border with the coats of arms of the spouses in the center below. In the center above the motto: Nil Vinclis Dulcius Illis (Nothing is sweeter than these bonds).
