About this work
The Spanish heidin Preciosa stands before a richly dressed man. A woman exposes a breast of Preciosa. Behind this trio, an older woman steals jewelry from a box standing on the table before her. Print marked top right: Tom. i. pag. i. The Spanish heidin Preciosa and the woman are figures taken from the story 'La Gitanella' by Miguel de Cervantes from 1613, in the Netherlands known as 'Het Spaans Heidinnetje'. Heiden and heidin were contemporary terms for the Roma people.
