Allegory on Marriage

Allegory on marriage, placed in an ornate cartouche built up from flowers, plants and architectural fragments. Centrally in the scene a man and woman are united in marriage by an angel and laurelled by two putti. Their hands touch each other above a burning altar. The couple is assisted by allegorical figures and putti with flower garlands. In the distance stands a classical building where putti with a cornucopia and the symbol of eternity, the snake biting its own tail, fly around. On the right Juno is drawn through the air in her chariot by peacocks. At the bottom of the cartouche sits Amor with arrow and bow on a shell, top left and right two putti hold a cartouche.
