About this work

An allegorical figure sits at a loom and is helped by a putto with a basket of yarn. Next to the loom stands a couple in love, a putto rolls out a piece of fabric for them on which two burning hearts are depicted. The scene is surrounded by a richly decorated frame, adorned with two crossed cornucopias and flanked by Mercury and a putto showing an altar and a pelican on a piece of fabric. In front of the frame lie two river gods, on the right the coat of arms of Amsterdam.
