Dangers of the Lawsuit

The female personification Good Cause (Bona Causa) must make her way through positive and negative personifications of the law. On the left stand the personifications Just Judge (Judices iusti), Skilled Advocacy (Advocati periti), Faithful Administration (Procurate res fideles) and Honest Witness (Testes veraces). On the right stand Unreliable Witness (Testes falsi), Negligent Administration (Procuratores negligenites), Inexperienced Advocacy (Advocati imperiti) and Unjust Judge (Iudices iniusti). Each of these personifications threatens Good Cause with a spear. At the end of this dangerous road Victory (Victoria) awaits her with a laurel wreath. The print has three inscriptions (two in Latin and one in Dutch) and is part of an eight-part series on the abuses in litigation.
