About this work

Saint Lawrence stands with outstretched arms, while a poorly dressed young man pulls the knot from the cord of his dalmatic. An old man behind him points aside, where the fire under the grid on which Lawrence will be martyred is being stoked. Two richly dressed men, one in Eastern costume, the other in Western attire, look at Lawrence. Above them floats an angel. In the background two Romans sit under a baldaquin. On the left a statue of a male nude.
