About this work

Saint Lawrence stands with outstretched arms, while a poorly dressed young man pulls the knot from the cord of his dalmatic. An old man behind him points aside, where the fire is being stoked under the gridiron on which Lawrence will be martyred. Two richly dressed men, one in Eastern costume and the other in Western attire, look at Lawrence. Above them hovers an angel. In the background, two Romans sit under a pavilion. On the right, a statue of a male nude. Below the image is an eight-line verse in Latin.
