About this work

In the center a blindfolded man in Eastern clothing with a tablet before him. The personification of Design, with compass on his head, stands behind him and guides his hand. Next to him stands a woman in antique clothing with a bowl in her hand. Above his head flies Fame with trumpet in her hand on which the title of the book. In the background a draftsman in a library. Center top, in a round vignette, painting is laureled. Next to the vignette the attributes of painting.
