About this work

A king sits on his throne and dispenses justice. He points with his staff at the accused as a sign that he grants him forgiveness. In the background, a gallows field and a building under construction. Below the image, two four-line verses in Latin about the inviolability of the law. A king must also obey the law, but the king has the authority to grant forgiveness.
