About this work
A king sits on his throne and dispenses justice, pointing with his staff at the accused to signify that he grants the man forgiveness. In the background, a gallows field and a building under construction. Below the image, two four-line Latin verses about the inviolability of the law. A king must also obey the law, but the king has the authority to grant forgiveness. The print is part of an album.
