About this work
After Idomeneus, king of Crete, was exiled by his people, the people decided to look for a new king. When Telemachus arrived in Crete, it was decided that he must become the new king. The scene shows a man kneeling among the Cretans offering Telemachus a crown and a scepter. Telemachus stands by a statue of Minos. He refuses to accept both objects.
