About this work
Historical representation of the punishment of a sodomite according to Roman law. A prisoner with a sack over his head is led out of prison by two lictors. In the foreground a large sack, dog, monkey, snake and rooster, which according to custom were bound together with the prisoner in one sack and drowned. On the right a statue of the river god of the Tiber and the wolf with Romulus and Remus. Marked bottom left: B.
