About this work

Historical depiction of the punishment of a homosexual or sodomite according to Roman law. A prisoner is led out of prison by two guards with a sack over his head. In the foreground, a large sack, dog, monkey, snake, and rooster, which according to custom were bound together with the prisoner in one sack and drowned. To the right, a statue of the river god of the Tiber. Marked bottom left: B.
