About this work
A Muslim galley slave is sitting with a barber, who is also a galley slave. Other Muslim galley slaves are watching. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by their characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft of hair), which they were required to wear. On the right, two sailors sitting on a bench, in conversation with a papasso (moollah and representative of the enslaved Muslims).
