About this work

Execution of Cornelis van der Burg, a pronounced patriot burgomaster of Bolsward, in Leeuwarden on 16 May 1789. As the burgomaster kneels blindfolded on the scaffold, the executioner holds the sword above his head, and the death sentence is commuted to twenty years' exile.
