About this work

Portrait of William I in an oval with an inscription and his coat of arms in the center. Around it lie several allegorical objects, including a palm and orange branches, a sword, a balance, a liberty spear with a liberty cap, a book, a mirror, and a snake as a symbol of Prudence, the anchor of hope, and a laurel wreath. On the relief, a depiction of the murder of William I by Balthasar Gerards on the stairs of the Prinsenhof in Delft.
