About this work
Allegorical figures with laurel wreaths on their heads display the portraits of the German surgeon and professor Lorenz Heister and the Amsterdam surgeon Hendrik Ulhoorn. Ulhoorn translated and adapted Heister's book *Heelkundige onderwyzingen* from German. At the top Fame blows a trumpet. Aesculapius, the god of health and medicine, holds an asclepius in one hand and with the other displays the portrait of Ulhoorn. To the left a putto with surgical instruments and a mirror with a snake, symbolizing Prudence.
