About this work
Hercules is being dragged into the abyss by the personification of Vice while Minerva, as the personification of Virtue, tries to pull him back. She points to Fame blowing her horn in the sky. To the right Juno sleeps. The scene is framed in an oval border. The corners are decorated with putti with symbols of the arts and sciences: astronomy (top left), geometry (top right), architecture (bottom left), and arithmetic (bottom right).
