About this work
Faith, a young woman holding a chalice with a host, triumphs on a two-wheeled chariot drawn by angels. Beside Faith stands the globe indicating Catholicity, signifying the spread of the faith across the entire world. Behind the chariot, captives are led away. The woman with many breasts is Nature. The old man leaning on his staff is the personification of Philosophy, Socrates. The man with the book and astrolabe is possibly the personification of the Sciences. The laurelled figure behind him is possibly Poetry. The captives surrender helplessly to Faith, which leads them as a victor into the light.
