About this work
On a two-wheeled chariot stands Divine Love (Caritas). She holds a child pressed to her breast. Beside her stand two more children seeking protection. At the front of the chariot sits a pelican feeding its young with its own blood. Above the head of Divine Love, a group of little angels fly in a round dance, the foremost holding a torch. Behind the chariot walk two angels; one holds a burning heart in the air, the other threatens two writhing snakes with a torch, symbol of hatred.
