About this work

On a two-wheeled cart stands Divine Love (Caritas). She holds a child pressed to her breast. Next to her stand two more children seeking protection. In front on the wagon sits a pelican feeding its young with its own blood. Above the head of Divine Love, a group of little angels fly in a round dance, the foremost holding a torch. Behind the wagon walk two angels; one holds a burning heart in the air, the other threatens two twisting snakes with a torch, symbol of hatred.
