Persecution and execution of homosexuals in 1730-1731 following the Utrecht homosexual affair. Allegory on the spread of the crimen nefandum (sodomy) in the Netherlands, in six cartouches each with different sins and punishments. Top, left to right: 1: a woman who is half human, half serpent (Sin), in a room with a men's gathering; 2: a woman stabbing herself in the chest with a sword (Despair) with women with children behind her who are abandoned by their husbands; 3: a seated woman with her hair standing straight up (Fear), behind whom a man is being arrested. Bottom, left to right: 4: a woman with a gridiron and chained men in a prison; 5: Death as a skeleton with a pyre and gallows behind him; 6: in front of the Amsterdam town hall, a crowd watches two men being drowned in a barrel, while on the right an angel sits with a flaming sword.
