About this work

The Christ Child lies on hay in the stable. Mary lifts the sheet to show him to the shepherds. Behind her stands Joseph. The shepherds and their wives turn in adoration to the Christ Child. Angels look on from heaven. One of them holds a scroll with an inscription in Latin. In the margin a Bible quote from Isa. 7 in Latin.
