About this work

Tomyris, Queen of the Scythians, stands in her palace under a drapery, accompanied by maids. She orders the severed head of Cyrus, the Persian king whom she had defeated, to be dipped in blood. A man kneels before her and dips the king's head in a basin of human blood. Soldiers behind him look on.
