About this work
The doctors Raasbollius and Urinaal quarrel in the inn of Loenen about the course of the planets, while Eelhart watches sitting at the table. Above the door hang the portraits of Copernicus and Ptolemaeus. Through the door a woman with a candle in her hand enters the room. Scene from the nineteenth play of The Mathematicians, or 't Gevluchte juffertje by Pieter Langendijk. At the bottom in the margin the coat of arms of Jan Jacob de Bruyn, who had the original painting in his collection.
