The personification of Astronomy is a winged woman who leans on a celestial globe and points to the sky with the pointer in her left hand. Her head is crowned with stars, while her breasts bear the symbols of the sun and moon. Next to her an eagle. On the ground lie books and measuring instruments that help her in the exercise of her task (for example a sundial and a compass).
