About this work
The young Hercules at the crossroads. In his hands, a club and a lion's skin. Above his head, the Greek letter Y, the letter symbolizing the path of life. To the left of Hercules stands the personification of Virtue, to the right the personification of Vice. Virtue points him to a narrow, steep path to Mount Parnassus. Vice points him to the broad path leading to storm and misfortune. In the sky, the Roman gods in heaven. Fame blows the trumpet.
