About this work

Two emergency coins used during the siege of Leiden in 1574. Left: the lion with the staff of liberty and liberty cap and the border inscription: Haec Libertatis ergo. Next to it the other side of the same coin: the coat of arms of Leiden and the border inscription: Godt behoede Leyden. Right: a coin with a lion holding a sword and the coat of arms of Leiden and the border inscription: Pugno Pro Patria 1574. On the other side the Latin name of Leiden: Lugdunum Batavorum.
