About this work
The dead Christ is carried into the grave and mourned by, among others, angels, Mary, John, and Mary Magdalene. To the right stands a man with a dish holding a sponge in his hands. On the ground lie the instruments of the Passion: nails and a crown of thorns. A putto shows the Veil of Veronica.
