About this work

The mass murder of the Chinese by the Dutch in the Chinese quarter of Batavia, after the discovery of the alleged betrayal, 9 October 1740. The streets and canals are full of the bodies of murdered Chinese. In the foreground the Chinese housing block is on fire, on the right the shelling with cannons of the house of the Chinese captain marked by the pole with the snake; the captain who tries to flee in women's clothes is captured.
