About this work

Death, with an hourglass and a crown with snakes, visits a rich man during a sumptuous banquet with many guests. He has wrapped his chains around a young woman who lies dead on the ground. The guests look shocked at the spectacle. They fear death, for it will put an end to their wealthy existence. In the background, a street scene.
