About this work

Illustration of the events known as the cruelty of the bull, 1647. The farmer and his pregnant wife who were attacked by a bull on 29 August 1647 in Zaandam. The pregnant woman is taken on the horns, with the child being thrown from the womb. The print shows an interior in which the fatally wounded farmer and farmeress lie. In the background, in two scenes, it can be seen how the man and the woman are attacked by the bull and how the bull is eventually killed. Below the image a description of the events, various verses about the main characters and an explanation of the attending physician, in 5 columns.
