About this work
The menagerie of Herman van Aken. Between two lions under Van Aken; above: a fierce lion. With two four-line verses, the top one beginning with the line 'Behold me, but be not afraid, I am a caged beast'. The second verse mentions that the circus can be visited at Blauw Jan (on the Kloveniersburgwal in Amsterdam).
