About this work
The Dutch Lion in the Dutch Garden, ca. 1580. On the fence are the coats of arms of liberated Dutch cities; on the entrance gate the coat of arms of the Prince of Orange. The garden is besieged and surrounded by Spanish boars; on the right a boar with the banner of Alva. On the left the sea with a ship manned by geese bearing the names of Zeelandic cities Vlissingen, Middelburg, and Veere. The Zeelandic lion fights the pigs in the water. The caption contains two eight-line verses in French and Dutch.
