About this work
Allegory on the political situation in the Netherlands in the year 1567. All parties represented by animals. While the Dutch Lion sleeps the fox and the wolf steal geese from a cage. In the background sleeping shepherds and pleasure-making gentlemen while the livestock is stolen. With an inscription of 1 line above the image and in the caption the legend 1-6 in 4 verses of 6 lines each in Dutch, French, German and Latin (8 lines). Mirror-image copy after the original by Wierix.
