About this work
Execution by hanging on the orders of Alva of the provost Hans de Greef, alias Spell or Spelleken, in Brussels, 11 February 1570. On the right, Spell kisses one of his associates. In the center, Spell hangs from the gallows with his sentence (sententie) on his chest. On the left, another of his associates is being whipped. With an inscription of 12 lines in German. Numbered in the lower left: 63. The print is part of an album.
